About Dawn
I am a highly experienced university lecturer and private tutor with over 10 years of experience. Originally from Australia, I now live in the United Kingdom and have taught both in-person and online all over the world. In terms of my qualifications, I hold a PhD in political science and policy studies, a Masters in Politics and a Bachelors (with distinction) in English, History, Philosophy and Politics.

I am a university lecturer and working academic with over 10 years of experience as both a lecturer and private tutor. I have vast experience in helping students of all ages achieve their potential by assisting with assessment preparation (learning how to write/structure essays and assessments) and have significant experience in teaching students English language skills - particularly for students who are learning English as a second, third or fourth language. I have a vast subject area knowledge and aim to teach my students to think critically about the subject matter under study. I am able to teach subjects in the humanities (history, politics, philosophy, English) and the social sciences (psychology, sociology, criminology). My teaching approach involves getting students to think more critically in order to develop long-term skills that will enable success in future subjects/assessments. Rather than simply revising the subject matter, I encourage students to consider what is being asked of them (i.e. what is the question really asking) and then work with the student to determine how is best to tackle the questions/problems at hand. For students who are interested in improving their English skills, I will include various aspects of English learning (academic writing, creative writing, and everyday English) in order to improve their overall skills. Most importantly, I tailor my tutoring sessions to fit my student's needs and goals. For secondary school students, I generally suggest a 1-hour weekly session. For younger students sometimes 30 mins is more appropriate. I am also able to offer intensive tutoring for university students and prospective university students (OXBRIDGE prep).
