About Maria

Moving to England from Brazil at the age of 10 was difficult because I had no knowledge of the English language. However, within the first year of my moving here, I was completely fluent.

In secondary school, I started to develop my passion for English, both the language aspect of it as well as the literature. This drove me to choose English BA as my degree at the University of Nottingham.

I was able to attain an A* in my English Literature A-level as well as an A* in Psychology and an A in Sociology.

Throughout my first year of university, I have improved my essay writing skills on top of my critical analysis skills. In addition to this, my language module has broadened my knowledge about linguistics and literacy, which really helps me teach those who are struggling with learning English as a second language.

About the lesson

My tutoring style is very interactive with a lot of discussion and analysis work.

I want to help students develop their own critical opinions about different texts and present these ideas in a sophisticated academic style. I also want to help those who may be struggling with the language side of English by expanding their vocabulary and working on their grammar in an interactive way.

I have been an English mentor for a secondary school student during the entirety of my sixth form career. I have taught a good majority of texts in the academic syllabus such as Inspector calls, Handmaids tale, Jekyll and Hyde, etc.

Usually, I prefer hour slots per lesson but I am very flexible! My working hours are also flexible (during the day or at night) because I am a University student.

Perfect! I needed to prepare myself for a job application and also to improve my English. I asked Maria to assist and teach and also to have a look at my application letter. Perfect! My daughter who is starting her first year of GCSE , has just started lessons with Maria. We chose Maria because being at University, Maria is very up-to-date with current expectations. My daughter is already saying that Maria is an excellent tutor. Personally, as a parent, I can see that Maria has very good positive energy . She is a great role model and suggests homework to support the lessons. In my opinion Maria is a 10/10.

Georgia is a pleasure to teach! She always does her homework on time and fully concentrates during lessons. Georgia comes up with really unique interpretations of poems and helps me look at them in a different light. Our lessons together have been a delight to me!
