About Jonathan

I want to teach because it doesn't just allow me to become smarter but I can assist others in crucial parts of their education and enable them to learn important skills that everyone needs. I know I can help people improve from past experiences teaching as I was a massive help to younger students when I was preparing for GCSEs. Students can rely on me to advance their minds to greater heights.

Hi, I'm Jonathan, a university student at Staffordshire University in London. In my spare time, I enjoy learning about all things to do with science and maths. I know students tend to struggle the most with maths so I'm more than happy to help in that area. In secondary school, I helped younger students with questions they struggled with in my free time, such as after school. I found that tutoring was great to help others learn as well as improve on topics myself.

In my lessons, my main goal would be to get students to understand each topic thoroughly rather than get through as much content as possible. This would involve me teaching topics in a range of ways so that the student can pick which method suits their learning style best. Additionally, I would give students plenty of room to do practice questions, as it is important that they can learn from mistakes they make while practising. I encourage students to ask as many questions as possible to improve their learning, there is no such thing as a stupid question! I also help students get into the habit of showing their work in full, this is because it helps them to retrace their steps if they go wrong and it also allows for higher marks in the exam. I can help students improve their general confidence about the subject, but can also help with exam technique and exam-related performance if that is what the student is looking for. My Lessons will last for at least an hour.

I myself sat my early-entry GCSE maths exam under the Edexcel exam board. However, I am capable of teaching maths on the other main exam boards, AQA and OCR, as the content doesn't vary drastically between them. I would also be happy to tutor KS3 and KS2 maths students.

I also have past tutoring experience as well. In Secondary school, while I was in my final year, I was helping students in the year below me to prepare for their exams. It was well known that I was good at maths so students came to me before school to ask for assistance. I would give small lectures to a few students by showing them how to answer questions step by step and important information to look out for in the question. This became persistent throughout the year leading to end of year exams. Helping students in this way gave me a good idea of what it's like to be a teacher. I had to plan what I was going to say so students could fully understand what I'm explaining. It made talking to people much easier as well as it is a great way to master a subject. I think this experience will be a massive help with this job because it makes me feel confident I'll do a good job.
