About Mary
Hello!
I’m a second-year student at the University of Toronto, pursuing a double major in Cell and Molecular Biology and Human Biology, alongside a minor in Mathematics. I currently hold a very strong academic background across mathematics, the sciences, and English literature.
Some background info about me: I have six years of formal tutoring experience (beginning at the age of 14), as well as many additional years of experience helping my two younger sisters with their elementary school studies. Working with students of different ages has taught me how to adapt my explanations to each student’s learning style. As a tutor, I am enthusiastic, kind, and highly attentive to detail. I believe that even the most difficult concepts can become manageable when they are broken down clearly and explained from the right perspective. Rather than asking students to memorize procedures (although such is indeed needed for academic success), I help them understand the underlying logic so that they can memorize the fundamentals easier and soon approach unfamiliar questions independently. My teaching style is structured, encouraging, and very results-oriented.
I also place great importance on helping students develop stronger study habits, academic discipline, and confidence in their abilities. Having personally studied demanding university-level mathematics and science courses, I understand how frustrating it can feel when a concept does not immediately make sense. My goal is to create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and steadily improving. Above all, I want my students to leave each session not only with better grades, but with a clearer understanding of the subject and greater confidence in their ability to succeed. Thank you for reading and for your consideration.
