About Rayna-Kirsten

Hi! My name is Rayna, and I’m a second-year Law student at the University of Warwick. Alongside my studies, I’ve worked as a tutor, mentor, and in a variety of roles where communication and explaining ideas clearly have been essential. I’ve always loved learning, but just as importantly, I’ve loved sharing that learning with others and helping them grow in confidence. I want to teach because I know how valuable the right support can be. During my own studies, I found that having someone who could break things down, listen, and adapt to how I learned best made all the difference. That’s the experience I want to create for my students—one where subjects feel approachable, progress feels achievable, and where you leave each session feeling more confident than when you started. For me, tutoring isn’t just about grades (though that’s important); it’s also about helping students develop skills—like critical thinking, organisation, and exam technique—that will stay with them long after the subject is finished. My goal is to be a supportive guide, someone who can help you meet challenges with patience, positivity, and practical strategies.

About the lesson

My approach to private tutoring is centred on tailoring each session to the individual student’s needs, learning style, and goals. I believe that effective learning requires both subject mastery and confidence-building, so I focus not only on content but also on helping students develop the skills to think critically, work independently, and feel assured in their abilities. I begin by identifying a student’s strengths and areas for improvement through discussion and practice exercises. From there, I adapt my teaching style—whether that involves breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps, using examples and analogies to aid understanding, or designing interactive tasks to keep learning engaging. I emphasise active learning: encouraging students to explain their reasoning, ask questions, and apply knowledge rather than simply memorise information. I also set short-term, achievable goals within each session so that students can see consistent progress, which motivates them to tackle more challenging material. Feedback plays an important role in my sessions. I provide constructive and specific feedback, highlighting not only what to improve but also what has been done well, as I find this builds student confidence. I also work with students to develop exam and essay-writing techniques, time management, and revision strategies—skills that remain valuable beyond tutoring. Most importantly, I strive to create a positive, patient, and supportive learning environment. I understand that students learn at different paces, and I am committed to adapting my methods to ensure they feel both challenged and supported throughout their learning journey.
