About Cara

Hi there, I’m Cara! I’m about to go into my final year at the University of York, studying Business of the Creative Industries. I’m interested in teaching, and I’m beginning with exploring different options through tutoring. I’m offering English tuition to young students as this subject was one that I worked tirelessly for, and so I understand the struggle it can be. I think I’d be a great support in the journey to success, as I feel experienced to be both academically and emotionally supportive. I’d love to help out students with this as English (more specifically reading) can be such a wonderful thing!

About the lesson

Throughout my experience in working, I have had multiple jobs that have been centred around children and teaching. These range from a lunchtime assistant at a secondary school, to teaching tennis and netball to primary school children. Having had these experiences, I understand the difficulties they face, and how hard it can be to struggle with a subject. For myself, English was a subject that I had to work on tirelessly to understand, but with hard work, I got there! I feel that with along with my strong empathy for young students today, I’m a patient tutor who wants to see others experience the bliss of finally understanding something. My methods follow from what I utilised as a GCSE student, and tend to be one step at a time. I like to check in often during sessions to ensure a student is feeling comfortable and ready for the tasks ahead. I like to have prior knowledge of the subject matter and what the student would like to achieve, so I can ensure I do my very best for them. I would tend to aim for hour lessons, however I am flexible around this. I’m happy teaching a range of ages depending on the subject matter. For example, as I’m going into my final year of Business studies at university, I’m available for tutoring CV writing, not only through learning about this in university, but also my own experience and research of the recruitment process. Aside from this however, I would work with any ages up to GCSE in subjects such as spelling, grammar etc. I believe I could be a great support to a young student. My school experience was one of the hardest things I’ve done, and I want to be there not only as an academic support, but also someone who will listen to their struggles and needs. As someone who had to work and work for everything I’ve achieved, I know how tough it can get, and I would love to see someone through to success.
