About Josh
Teaching has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I loved helping others understand new things, and that desire to guide and support has only grown stronger over the years. I find immense joy in seeing people make progress and achieve their goals through the guidance I provide. My experience as a camp counselor taught me the importance of building emotional bonds with kids, creating a positive and supportive environment where they feel comfortable to learn and grow.
I'm interested in tutoring because I believe it is a powerful resource that can unlock potential and transform lives. Everyone deserves access to quality education and the chance to pursue their interests and dreams, and I’m dedicated to helping students of all backgrounds reach their full potential. I use a student-centered and interactive approach to make history, archaeology, and mythology engaging and accessible. My lessons are tailored to the unique learning styles and goals of each student, utilizing storytelling, primary source analysis, and multimedia resources. I encourage active participation, discussions, and critical thinking to help students connect with the material and see its relevance to today’s world. For complex topics, I break them down into manageable parts, using visual aids like timelines and maps to provide clear context.
Each lesson typically lasts 60 minutes, providing enough time to explore topics in depth while keeping students engaged. I also offer 90-minute sessions for more intensive study, such as exam preparation or project work, to ensure comprehensive understanding.
I hold a 2.1 honors degree in History from the University of Glasgow, with expertise in archaeology, history, and mythology. While my formal tutoring experience is recent, I have several years of teaching experience as a swim instructor, where I developed strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners. This experience has given me a solid foundation in instructional techniques, which I now apply to teaching academic subjects.
