Find out more about Ali

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My passion for the subjects I teach, such as Mechanics, Astronomy, Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering, and Robotics, started early on during my school days. I was always intrigued by how things work, the mysteries of the universe, and the potential of engineering to shape our world. As for private tutoring, I began tutoring fellow students and younger peers during my undergraduate years. Witnessing their "aha" moments and the joy of grasping complex concepts fueled my desire to pursue private tutoring further.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

The subjects I teach are fascinating and diverse. In Mechanics, I enjoy exploring concepts like Newton's laws, kinematics, and fluid mechanics. In Astronomy, the cosmos is an endless source of wonder, and I love discussing celestial bodies, the universe's origins, and the mysteries that astronomers seek to unravel. Mechanical Engineering is another favorite, where we delve into thermodynamics, materials science, and machine design. General Engineering covers a broad range, from electrical circuits to control systems, which offers a wealth of exciting topics to discuss. As for Robotics, I am passionate about artificial intelligence, sensors, and autonomous systems. While I enjoy all these subjects, there might be a bit more challenge in some advanced topics of Robotics due to the fast-paced nature of the field.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely! My role model and inspiration were one of my professors during my undergraduate studies. They had a unique ability to make complex topics feel approachable and had an infectious enthusiasm for their subject. They encouraged curiosity, welcomed questions, and instilled in me the belief that learning is an adventure to be embraced. Their dedication to teaching and research left a lasting impact on me, and I strive to embody those qualities in my own tutoring journey.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Being a good tutor requires a blend of qualities. Firstly, patience is key, as every student learns at their own pace. Adaptability is crucial to tailor the teaching approach to suit individual learning styles. Empathy helps me understand my students' struggles and provide the support they need. A passion for the subject is essential to ignite curiosity in my learners. Moreover, effective communication skills enable me to explain complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. Lastly, a commitment to ongoing learning and improvement ensures I stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in my field.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my most memorable moments as a tutor was when a student, who had been struggling with Mechanics, finally grasped the concept of momentum after several sessions. They couldn't contain their excitement and even related it to a real-life scenario they had experienced. Witnessing their newfound understanding and enthusiasm for the subject was truly rewarding and a testament to the power of effective teaching.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

In the realm of Robotics, the rapid advancements in technology and artificial intelligence present both opportunities and challenges. Staying current with the latest developments can be demanding, but it's necessary to provide my students with cutting-edge knowledge. Additionally, some students might find the abstract concepts in Robotics challenging, and it's my responsibility to find creative ways to make those concepts more tangible and relatable.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a deep passion for both teaching and my subject matter. Teaching allows me to share my knowledge and inspire others to explore the wonders of science and engineering. It brings me great joy to see my students grow and succeed in their academic journeys. As for my subject, I am particularly drawn to the intersection of Robotics and space exploration. The potential of robotic systems in advancing our understanding of the cosmos and enabling future space missions is truly captivating.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

Well, besides these questions, my adaptive teaching approach sets me apart as a Superprof. I firmly believe that effective teaching is not a one-size-fits-all approach. By customizing my lessons to match each student's learning style, pace, and objectives, I can ensure a more engaging and impactful learning experience. Moreover, my passion for my subjects shines through in my teaching, motivating and inspiring my students to delve deeper into the fascinating worlds of engineering and space. Together, we embark on a journey of knowledge, curiosity, and exploration, aiming to build a strong foundation for their future endeavours.
