About Jalen
My singing teaching approach emphasizes rhythm as a foundation for confident, expressive, and dynamic performance. I use rhythm-based techniques to help students develop timing, energy, and groove in their singing. Together, we explore important concepts like syncopation, beat subdivision, and rhythmic phrasing across genres such as gospel, funk, and jazz. For students who learn best through movement, I incorporate exercises that connect body motion with vocal rhythm. This helps improve coordination, release tension, and enhance musical expression. Those who respond to emotional or creative instincts benefit from improvisation, call-and-response exercises, and playful experimentation with rhythm and melody. I break down complex rhythms into smaller, manageable parts, making challenging grooves accessible and enjoyable. Students learn to feel the beat internally, developing natural flow and expressive timing. Lessons combine structured technique with creative freedom, helping students explore music in ways that feel intuitive and personal.

I’m a piano tutor with 5 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Piano Emphasis. I love making piano learning accessible, playful, and meaningful for students of all ages. My lessons are designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence while keeping music fun.
I have experience working with neurodiverse learners, including students with ADHD and other learning differences. I understand that each student learns differently, and I tailor lessons to fit individual needs. Movement, visual aids, and interactive apps are key tools I use to make lessons engaging and effective.
My approach balances structured technique with creative freedom, helping students grow their skills while deepening their love for music. Lessons can include games, improvisation, storytelling, and technology to make learning dynamic.
I believe piano should be joyful, not intimidating. Whether you’re starting for the first time or returning to music, I provide a supportive and flexible environment.
