About Kalyn
I really love to read and write! I've always been a dedicated reader, but lately I've been writing more poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Practicing literacy skills brings me joy and I love sharing this joy with my students. I believe in every student and their ability to reach their potential, and beyond. I coach tennis at the school I work at full-time, and I host a meditation & yoga club. I like exercising and spending time with family and friends. I love music and frequently go to concerts. I'm also a big foodie and attendee of theatre and broadway performances. There are many things I want to learn more about, such as ceramics, dance and baking.

My personalized instruction is targeted towards the needs of my individual students. My approach towards learning is discovery-based, collaborative, supportive and diagnostic. I use Orton-Gillingham methods with basic literacy skills intervention. I believe in multi-sensory instruction (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, etc.) and recognizing a student's strengths, while working on developing skills for identified areas of growth (based on the student profile). Generally, I try to make learning fun, because it is fun. Lesson plans will be different in each meeting based on the group or individual. I have experience serving students in grades K-3 and 6-12. I am able to instruct and support students across all subject areas, even though I specialize in literacy. I enjoy math, science, language (Spanish) and history.
