I have studied philosophy since school and currently have students up to a Master's level. I usually work with the student to help them build a strong understanding of the philosophical concept, and its wider historical and social context, before helping them to understand its themes and key ideas. From there I work with my students to strengthen their understanding and building of their own ideas on paper. I use a variety of exercises and mediums (film, poetry, novels, etc.) to achieve this. As philosophy is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion, and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience to every class I teach. I see the most substantial and sustained improvement when I work with students for 1-3 hours a week, for a minimum of 2-3 months. With 2-3 months, I generally start to see my students improve. With 6 months it seems this improvement becomes more substantial and long-lasting. I always prioritize the safety and mental well-being of the student.
