About Yu
Chinese is my first language, and English is my second language, so I fully understand the challenges of learning a new language. As a current PhD student, I also know that learning can sometimes feel stressful, so I aim to create a relaxed, encouraging, and supportive learning environment.
My lessons mainly focus on communication, because I believe the best way to improve a language is to use it actively. I will encourage you to speak, listen, and express your ideas in Chinese as much as possible. Mistakes are welcome in my class, because they are an important part of learning.
I am patient, friendly, and happy to guide students step by step. My goal is to help you build confidence and improve your Mandarin through practical conversation and consistent practice.

My lessons are student-centered and tailored to each learner’s goals, level, and interests. At the beginning, we can discuss what you would like to achieve, such as daily conversation, pronunciation, listening, reading, writing, exam preparation, or learning more about Chinese culture.
A typical lesson is around 50 minutes. I will prepare suitable materials and guide you step by step through explanation, practice, correction, and feedback. I focus on helping students build confidence and use Mandarin in practical situations.
I have many years of teaching experience, a master’s degree from Xiamen University, and I am currently pursuing my PhD at the University of Western Australia. My lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate learners, advanced students, and learners of different ages. I am patient, supportive, and happy to help students make steady progress.
