About Steven
I am a dedicated education professional with 20 years of experience supporting students as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, and school administrator. My career has spanned middle school, high school, and college-level English and Language Arts, where I have taught courses across all genres and difficulty levels, including PSAT, SAT, and ACT preparation, creative and technical writing, and advanced composition. Over the past two decades, I have served in a wide range of leadership and instructional roles, including Assistant Principal, Senior Team Lead, Virtual Learning Coordinator, Coach, Instructional Leader, and Academic Mentor. These experiences have strengthened my ability to understand student needs, guide teachers, design effective learning environments, and help learners achieve meaningful academic growth. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and I have made Denver, Colorado, my home for the past 22 years. My background and professional journey have shaped my belief in equity, hard work, and opportunity through education. I bring that commitment to every student I work with. Throughout my career, I have worked in high-performing schools and districts, contributing in nearly every academic, extracurricular, and co-curricular capacity. I take great pride in my professionalism, reliability, and dedication to excellence in everything I do. Above all, I am deeply committed to my students’ success, growth, and future accomplishments. My goal as an educator and mentor is not only to support students in reaching their academic targets, but also to help them build confidence, self-advocacy skills, and a lasting love of learning.

As a tutor, my approach is grounded in clarity, engagement, and meaningful academic growth. I believe students learn best when instruction is interactive, supportive, and connected to real-world thinking skills. I use a combination of research-based strategies, structured academic routines, and responsive feedback to help students build confidence, independence, and mastery in their work.
My teaching style blends guided practice, collaborative discussion, and targeted skill development. I incorporate digital tools such as Pear Deck and Google Classroom to make learning interactive and accessible, and I tailor instruction to each learner’s strengths, goals, and areas for growth. I emphasize critical thinking, organization, and clear communication, while also supporting students in developing productive study habits and academic resilience.
A standard lesson begins with a Do Now activity connected to the day’s topic, designed to activate prior knowledge and introduce key concepts. From there, students move through 2–3 interactive components that introduce, model, and reinforce the lesson focus. Students then engage in guided practice with direct, constructive feedback highlighting both glows (strengths) and growth areas. Each session ends with open dialogue, reflection, and extended practice time, ensuring students gain proficiency while receiving individualized support and real-time feedback.
I am a successful 20-year educator with a proven track record of significantly raising GPAs and standardized test scores for a wide range of students. My experience as both a classroom teacher and instructional leader allows me to quickly diagnose learning needs, design targeted support, and help students achieve measurable results while building confidence in their abilities.
My lessons are designed for middle school through college-level students, from beginner to advanced learners. I specialize in:
-English Language Arts
-Essay writing and academic composition
-Test preparation
-Creative and technical writing
-Literature studies and writing across genres and disciplines
My goal is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where students feel empowered, challenged, and equipped to succeed.
