About Bruce
I have been teaching in one form or another for 30 years; my experience includes designing and directing giant lab courses (1500+ students), classical lab and classroom courses, and most importantly, small classes full of one-on-one discussion interactions, office hour meetings with students, and most recently, one-on-one tutoring in person and on the web.

Real learning takes place when the learner is an active participant. I work hard to identify the minimal clue or 'push' a student needs to solve the next piece of the puzzle on their own. I recognize that not getting in students' way can be as important a part of teaching as sharing my insights and methods. Genetics is generally about solving puzzles; the art of teaching it is to help students grasp the basics and methodologies until the process becomes FUN--in this way, understandings last.
