About Luis
I am a junior at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, and I previously earned my Associate of Science in Natural Sciences. My academic background focuses on ecology, biology, and environmental systems, with a particular interest in insect biology and evolution.
I have completed General Entomology with an A and currently study Veterinary Entomology, where I continue developing my understanding of arthropods that impact ecosystems, animals, and human health. In addition to coursework, I worked as a research assistant in an entomology laboratory, where I studied opsin evolution in insects. This experience strengthened my knowledge of insect physiology, evolution, and scientific research methods.
I am also involved in the CAL Project, where I help with scientific outreach and environmental education. Through this work, I have gained experience explaining scientific concepts clearly to diverse audiences, which has helped me develop strong communication and teaching skills.
As a tutor, my goal is to help students build confidence in scientific subjects while developing a deeper understanding of the material. I focus on clear explanations, structured study strategies, and practical examples so students can succeed in their courses and exams.
I take my work seriously and strive to maintain a professional, supportive, and organized learning environment. I am committed to helping students understand difficult topics and reach their academic goals.

My tutoring approach focuses on helping students understand the biological and medical importance of arthropods that affect animals and livestock. I emphasize learning vector biology, parasite identification, and the ecological relationships between arthropods and hosts.
Because I am currently studying Veterinary Entomology and have experience in general entomology research, I help students understand both the scientific concepts and the practical applications of the subject. I aim to simplify complex life cycles, disease transmission pathways, and identification features so students can confidently apply them during exams.
