About Ruthie
I have just graduated with a degree in music from Goldsmiths, University of London and I am now starting my master's degree. I have been playing the violin for over 10 years in large orchestras, chamber ensembles, rock bands, jazz bands and improvisation groups. I have previously worked as an instrumental tutor, primarily for primary school aged children. I am also working as a performer and composer in a variety of areas such as classical, jazz, rock and experimental music on a variety of instruments including the violin, steel pan and trombone.

I am offering violin lessons for beginner/intermediate students of any age, prior level of musical experience or learning style (those with additional support needs are always welcome), great for those picking up an instrument for the first time, those wanting to transfer their skills onto another instrument or those wanting to prepare for their graded exams. In our lessons we will cover instrument technique, repertoire and performance skills as well as broader music theory to gain a deeper understanding of how the music works. We can tailor your lessons to suit you/your child's needs and interests by finding the styles and repertoire that will be most engaging and we can continue from any previous lessons you have received. I hope to not only provide foundational instrumental skills, but also encourage and develop your overall music making abilities. I am based in south-east London for in-person lessons at your home and I would be able to provide you with an instrument for our first few sessions (however I recommend purchasing/borrowing an instrument so you are able to practise). Alternatively we can have our lessons via Zoom.
