James has rich musical knowledge and is patient. He understands how to teach young people and has a gentle yet firm approach that helps progress technique but also general musicality. He has helped me prepare for two successful auditions into the National Children's Orchestra, my time being taught by him was very positive.

James is an incredibly kind and patient teacher, providing highly detailed feedback that both directs and inspires my practice. Enhancing my grasp of technique and musicality alike, over the 9 years I’ve worked with James he’s guided me through ABRSM exams for Grades 5 (passed with merit), 7 (passed with merit), 8 (passed with Distinction), and ARSM (passed with merit). Further, he taught me Grade 5 theory (passed with Distinction), and supported successful auditions for the Oxfordshire County Youth, and later my university’s symphony orchestra. James is organised and reliable, and his tutelage has not only improved my competence, but also confidence and enjoyment of the instrument.

James taught our daughter violin for several years taking her all the way from a novice player through to Diploma level. He is a highly accomplished professional musician who inspires students through his own playing. He is an ideal teacher for students at any level seeking to develop and improve their playing technique. We highly recommend him.

Our eldest three children have achieved grade 5 (practical and theory) before leaving primary school which has then enabled them to go on and apply for music scholarships for secondary school.

Our children have also really enjoyed going along to the Royal Albert Hall to watch him play with the BBC Orchestra during The Summer Proms.
