About Madeleine
I started learning Latin more than twenty years ago and quickly added Greek to the mix, studying Classics at the University of Bristol (and achieving first class honours). I followed this up with an MA in Classics and Ancient History and went into teaching straight afterwards - because what other job allows you to tell Greek Myths for a living? I left teaching in 2024 to explore a career in healthcare but I still love sharing my interest in the ancient world!
As a teacher I worked in some of the UK's highest achieving schools and had excellent success rates at exams (GCSE, A Level, IB, Pre-U). But more importantly, I worked to help students develop their confidence and achieve the best grades for them, at whatever level they were working at.

It is my mission to make the ancient world engaging, accessible and (hopefully) fun. I believe in making lessons positive and targeted to help the individual. I love the ancient world, including its languages and want to share this enthusiasm with my students. Latin and Greek can sometimes be daunting - but they don't need to be (even if I've lost count of the number of 'it's all Greek to me' jokes!) By focusing on the core principles of the languages and encouraging students to identify key patterns there is a lot that can be achieved in a short period of time.
How can I help? As a tutor, I can provide support for students in the run up to examinations and at any moments where they might be having a 'wobble'. I aim to establish clarity and build students' confidence. With over a decade's experience in preparing students for examinations, I can also help with the ever elusive 'exam technique' and improving quality of extended written communication and advanced skills such as prose composition and literary analysis.
