About Toya
Hello! My name is Toya, and I am an experienced English educator with over 10 years of teaching and instructional leadership experience. I specialize in reading comprehension, essay writing, resume preparation, and test prep for students of various ages and skill levels. I am a graduate of William Carey University and take a personalized, student-centered approach to teaching because I believe every learner is unique. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel confident improving their English skills step-by-step.

My approach as a tutor is centered around creating a supportive, engaging, and personalized learning environment where students feel comfortable building confidence in their English skills. I understand that every student learns differently, so I take an individualized approach to ensure lessons are tailored to each student’s learning style, goals, strengths, and areas of growth.
My teaching style combines structure, encouragement, and real-world application. I focus heavily on helping students improve not only their academic English skills, but also their confidence in reading, writing, communication, and critical thinking. I use guided instruction, modeling, practice activities, discussion, and constructive feedback to help students grow step-by-step while maintaining a positive and motivating environment.
A typical lesson begins with identifying the student’s goals and current skill level. From there, I introduce targeted instruction and examples related to the focus area, whether that is reading comprehension, essay writing, resume preparation, conversational English, or test prep. Lessons include interactive practice, guided support, and opportunities for students to apply new skills independently while receiving feedback and encouragement throughout the process.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my strong background in education, leadership, and instructional support. I have over 10 years of experience working with diverse learners and helping students improve both academically and personally. I am patient, adaptable, organized, and passionate about helping students succeed. I also understand how to break down complex concepts into simpler, manageable steps that help students feel confident and capable.
My lessons are ideal for children, teenagers, college students, and adults who want to improve their English skills for school, career advancement, interviews, resume preparation, test preparation, reading comprehension, writing development, or everyday communication. I welcome learners of different backgrounds and proficiency levels and strive to make every lesson engaging, encouraging, and productive.
