About Mary
I have been teaching students of all ages in various subjects for 39 years. I specifically have been teaching English as a Foreign Language in China (sometimes the U.S.) for 24 years. I understand what it means to live/work cross-culturally. Therefore, I understand what basic information is needed to adjust to another culture in another language. Additionally, I have helped prepare high school students, university students and adults for living abroad.
I became a TOEFL-certified teacher in 2009. I have written curriculum with the underlying activities (i.e., games, puzzles, corresponding music, flashcards, etc.) for teaching English as a Second Language. Furthermore, I have edited bilingual (English portion only) books.
I greatly enjoy opening up a world of knowledge and opportunities to students who desire to improve their ability to communicate with others. Most of my friends are my former students whom I have known for years; some of them have sent their teenaged children to me for summer English camps.
Finally, I have a BBA in Accounting/Management and an MA in Religious Education.

After setting goals with a student, a lesson plan will be created with specific vocabulary. This lesson plan will include use of various activities which may include music, games, questions and answers (Q&A), puzzles, interviews, etc. to enable the student to use the vocabulary in different social/educational settings. The lessons will be designed for teenagers or adults and include help in understanding cultural usage in the U.S. and sometimes the broader English-speaking world.
