About Tavian
I’m a guitar teacher with over 10 years of experience and a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Guitar Studies. I specialize in helping students sharpen their ears and deepen their connection to the music they love. Ear training is a major part of how I teach, because I believe strong listening leads to confident playing. In my lessons, we explore how to transcribe solos by ear, recognize chord progressions without needing sheet music, and build pitch accuracy with focused drills. I guide students step by step through identifying intervals, hearing harmonic movement, and developing rhythmic precision. We use real songs and musical examples to keep things practical and fun. Whether you're learning jazz, rock, or pop, I help you hear and feel the music more clearly. I also introduce tools for developing relative pitch and working toward perfect pitch, depending on your goals. My approach is structured, but flexible—I adapt to your pace and interests. Lessons are interactive, thoughtful, and designed to make your ears your greatest musical asset. Over time, you’ll find yourself more independent, expressive, and aware. I’m here to help you listen deeply and play with purpose.

My guitar teaching style is warm, interactive, and highly goal-focused. I specialize in fingerstyle guitar, intricate arrangements, and classical pieces that highlight musical detail and personal expression. Lessons are designed to meet each student's pace, with attention to both skill-building and artistic development.
We work on advanced picking patterns, classical repertoire, and reading standard notation. I also teach how to arrange songs for solo guitar, bringing out the full richness of the instrument. My teaching tools include visual aids, slow-practice methods, and step-by-step demonstrations that make even complex pieces approachable.
I love helping students who are either returning to music or aiming to record and express themselves through their playing. Progress is carefully tracked and celebrated, and I always encourage exploration within structure. My students learn not only how to play, but how to listen and shape their own sound.
