About Jake
I am currently studying for a masters in International Relations and Security at the University of Liverpool. This programme has focused on many of the current issues occurring within the international political arena, vis-a-vis regional upheaval in the Middle East, failed counterinsurgency in Africa and the politics of ethnicity in the Balkans. Prior to this, I completed a History degree (BA) at Liverpool John Moores University, which looked at several important events of the past, such as the British Empire's role in African politics, Spain's transition to democracy in the post-Franco period and Germany's pilgrimage to war under the Nazis. As such, I possess a strong academic background in history and global politics and can, therefore, be guaranteed to provide excellent teaching on these topics, as well as good sound advice in how to make insightful comments and construct a strong, coherent argument. In terms of teaching style, my favoured approach is to provide an environment where students feel valued and also feel under no pressure from their tutor. I often like to engage with those who I am teaching, as discussing and debating topics is often the most effective way for a student to learn in my opinion. Many people, particularly my lecturers at university, have often commented how impressed they are with my ability to explain things, in particular, how I have have been able to summarise complex pieces of information into much more simple, accessible interpretations. Most of all, I hold a strong passion for all things history and politics and would love to be able to share my passion for these topics with other fellow students.
