About Maureen
I have written professionally most of my adult life, and in 1996, I received my M.A. in English, with a concentration in writing, from the University of New Mexico.
Receiving my M.A. enabled me to teach at the community colleges across the state. I have taught Developmental Writing, Freshman Composition, and even Creative Writing and Detective Fiction.
I love teaching. I especially enjoy assuring students that they have stories I really want to read.

I am a student-centered teacher and tutor, meaning I consider it my responsibility to match my teaching approach to your learning approach. I start every writing class with 10- to 15-minutes free writing, which I look upon as warm-ups. Or as I've explained to students, free writing is kind of like doing jumping jacks before you start working out. I work with all ages and abilities. I have taught primarily adult students but have tutored primarily elementary and middle school studets. I tend to specialize in those students who are convinced they have absolutely nothing to write about.
