About Josephine

Imagine an English class where you experience the language with all 5 senses. Your mind is a dynamic space where lessons should come alive! My name is Josephine, and I am passionate about language, and its ability to connect people to stories, ideas, and each other. As a seven-year English Language Arts teacher in Philadelphia, my passion for teaching and English, resulted in engaging lessons and activities that sparked curiosity and inspired exploration. My approach to teaching the English language encourages a contemplative and thoughtful engagement with literature and writing. More importantly, I am a teacher who will exhort you to wield the power that a command of the English language can hold, for the betterment of yourself, and others. The "why" behind the words will be explored as we deep-dive into multiple meaning words, word relationships, and focus on syntax and word choice within written and spoken expression. Critical thinking skills are sharpened as we discover more creative and persuasive ways to express ourselves. My learning environment is supportive, safe, and resilient. Like many teachers during the pandemic, I had to learn, on a dime, how to translate the same energy and engagement I had in the classroom, into the online arena. In my classroom, whether in person or online, ideas are valued and voices are encouraged. My instruction style diversifies to support individual learning styles and caters to a multitude of learning needs. As a diverse learner myself, your learning differences are an invitation for us to be creative, and I RELISH opportunities for creative problem-solving! Let's win together!

1. Dynamic instruction with Google Slides

Visual Learners: Slides can be filled with graphics, videos, images, and animations to make complex ideas digestible and visually stimulating. Digital one-pagers can also be created for visual assessments.

Kinesthetic Learners: Interactive activities can be embedded directly into the slides, encouraging participation. For example, drag-and-drop activities can be included for vocabulary practice or Blooket games can be incorporated within the presentation.

Auditory Learners: Audio explanations can be recorded or videos with captions can be included within the slides to reinforce concepts and cater to those who learn best by listening.

Reading/Writing Learners: Text boxes and notes sections can be used for students to reflect, organize their thoughts, and record questions.

2. Interactive fun with Quizizz and Blooket

Gamified Assessments: Vocabulary drills, grammar quizzes, and comprehension checks can be transformed into competitive games. This keeps students motivated and provides immediate feedback on their understanding.

Differentiation: Both platforms allow questions and game modes to be tailored to meet different learning levels, ensuring everyone feels challenged but not overwhelmed.

Reusability: Question sets can be reused across multiple games and lessons, saving planning time.

3. Collaborative learning with Google Docs

Group Projects: Students can work together in real-time on essays, stories, or research projects, commenting on each other's drafts and suggesting edits. This promotes critical thinking and peer learning.

Real-time Support: Student progress can be monitored, and immediate feedback can be provided by observing edits and comments within the document.

Accessibility: Google Docs offers features like voice typing and customizable backgrounds and fonts, which can be beneficial for students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

4. Engaging resources from Teachers Pay Teachers
Resources available on Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT) can be used to find engaging, ready-to-use materials.

Interactive Activities: Resources like digital escape rooms, interactive notebooks, and vocabulary games can be found that can be used directly or adapted to fit students' needs.

Differentiation: Many TpT resources are designed with differentiation in mind, offering multiple levels and variations to suit diverse learners.

Saving Time: The platform helps find high-quality, pre-made resources, saving valuable lesson planning time.
