About Monica
I have taught English for 20 years in both middle and high school, specifically English 8 and 11, including classes for gifted students and AP Language. I have a Master’s in Journalism, so writing is my specialty. I believe engagement in both the instructor and the work is key. This comes from a kind, respectful rapport with the student, as well as choosing texts students enjoy. In both levels, (8th and 11th) I teach the Writing and Reading SOL, so I know how to increase understanding in order to perform well on those tests. Boosting a student’s confidence allows them to think and perform effectively - this is my number one goal.
