Learning isn't just about hammering the material over and over; it's about teaching yourself how to learn. As your tutor, you can expect a review of relevant material combined with an introduction to various learning and studying techniques that you can then use along with our sessions. I have prior experience as a supplemental instructor in 1000-2000 level Biology courses. If you are a new university student struggling to get their feet underneath them or a student that just needs to lighten the load with some extra tutoring, my plans are for you. A typical one-hour session plan of study is as follows: - Assess student's confidence in material. This is the first and most important step. Teaching the student how to know WHAT they need to know. From here, we can create a plan of study that doesn't waste time on already understood concepts and focuses on the student's areas of struggle. - Review current material and answer any outstanding foundational questions. Once we have established what material needs focus, I then assess how much the student already knows about the material and correct any foundational misconceptions that may impede further learning. - Once we know exactly where the student stands by following the last two steps, we can begin to build the knowledge necessary to build upon these concepts further. -
