About Karl
I've been playing guitar since I was 14, and I'm still pushing myself to learn, grow, and adapt as a player. I'm a proficient and experienced bassist as well, having played both electric and upright bass. I read and write staff notation and I'm well-versed in music theory. In addition to teaching privately, I have 5 years of classroom experience in multiple disciplines. I believe in taking a personalized approach with each student based around their specific goals and interests.

In a private lesson setting, I like to create a lesson plan tailored to the student's interests. I will typically begin by assessing the student's existing proficiency with the instrument and identifying what technical areas to focus on. I also like to encourage students to bring in pieces of music they want to learn- it keeps lessons fun and engaging, and it provides a springboard for putting technical concepts in context.
