About Mercey
I am a dedicated guitar tutor with over 11 years of teaching experience, working with students both in-person and online. Holding a degree in music and performance, I bring a strong academic foundation alongside practical expertise. My teaching philosophy centres on expressive playing, technical fluency, and building confidence through personalised instruction. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my methods to fit individual goals, whether that means mastering technique, exploring styles, or developing creativity. Lessons focus on key areas such as music theory, fretboard fluency, rhythmic precision, and improvisation. I also encourage students to find their own voice on the instrument while guiding them through structured skill development. My teaching approach focuses on helping every student find their own voice on the guitar. I start by understanding the student’s current level, goals, and musical interests. This helps me create lessons that are structured yet flexible. I emphasise strong foundations in rhythm practice because timing is the heart of good guitar playing. We work on groove development and tempo control using fun exercises, backing tracks, and metronome drills. These practices make students more confident and expressive. I also guide students in adapting styles across blues, funk, and folk, so they can play with versatility. Each genre comes with its own feel, and I help students understand those subtle differences. This way, they can easily switch styles when needed. For those who want to excel in leading groups or strumming at gatherings, I give special attention to smooth chord transitions, dynamic strumming patterns, and expressive playing. These skills build confidence in both solo and group settings. My lessons are a mix of technical training, creative exploration, and enjoyable practice. I believe learning guitar should always feel inspiring. With consistent practice and my guidance, students not only learn to play but also develop a deep passion for music.
