About Markian
My contact: +1 (concealed information) I’m a Computer Science student at Rutgers University and a lifelong chess player. I started playing chess at a young age and continue to compete in tournaments, constantly improving my understanding of the game. Chess is a true passion of mine. I’m also a fun, outgoing person who enjoys hanging out with friends and keeping lessons relaxed and engaging. I believe students learn best in a positive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is to help students improve their chess skills while also enjoying the learning process.

I’m a chess tutor who focuses on helping students truly understand the game, not just memorize moves. My lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to each student’s level and goals. Whether you’re a beginner learning the basics or an intermediate player looking to improve consistency and confidence, I provide clear guidance and practical tools for steady improvement.
My Teaching Method:
1. My approach is based on building strong fundamentals and good thinking habits.
2. Emphasis on understanding ideas (piece activity, king safety, pawn structure)
3. Step-by-step explanations using real positions and examples
Regular questioning and discussion to develop independent thinking
4. Analysis of the student’s own games to correct mistakes and reinforce strengths
5. Short tactical and calculation exercises to improve board vision
6. I adapt my pace and teaching style to each student, making lessons both effective and enjoyable.
Typical Lesson Structure:
1. Warm-up: Tactical puzzles or quick review
2. Game analysis: Review a recent student game or instructive example
3. Main lesson: One focused topic (openings, tactics, strategy, or endgames)
4. Practice: Exercises or a short training game with feedback
5. Wrap-up: Key takeaways and optional practice for the week
What Makes Me Different:
1. Personalized lessons—no one-size-fits-all teaching
2. Clear, simple explanations of complex ideas
3. Focus on long-term improvement, not shortcuts
4. Supportive and patient teaching style
5. Strong balance between theory and practical play
Who My Lessons Are For:
1. Beginners learning the rules and fundamentals
2. Intermediate players looking to improve consistency and understanding
3. Students of all ages (children, teens, adults)
4. Casual players or those preparing for school teams or tournaments
5. Lessons are ideal for students who want structured guidance and measurable progress.
