About Lynn
BA, PGCE, MA (Distinction) As a creative freelance practitioner, English teacher, drama specialist & writer, I appreciate the power and beauty of language while also nurturing a sense of play & adventure during the online tuition and projects I deliver. I have been teaching and working with learners since 1996 including 20 years' experience as an English Teacher, Head of Drama & ITT Subject Mentor - I am qualified and hugely passionate about empowering children and adults through creativity. Also, being a LAMDA examiner, I can use my training to further inform my practice as I prepare young learners for a range of exams (or rather opportunities!) offered by LAMDA. Being a current GCSE examiner too for English Literature (formerly English Language too) keeps my skill-set current and I tailor tuition to the learner on an individual basis, up to A level. By providing an encouraging, engaging format to develop confident inter-personnel skills, I strongly advocate that children can become better equipped for their future (and have great fun doing it!) I use a range of pedagogies to inform my practice: Critical Skills, Habits of Mind and more recently with ongoing study, the Writing and Thinking pedagogy as taught by Bard College IWT. My interest in how we learn, and the importance of keeping learning relevant (the 'why' part) has been a key part of my professional focus since I started teaching in 1996. In October 2021 I was accepted onto the prestigious two-year Bard CLASP fellows programme, with the support of Black Mountains College, Talgarth who I am a faculty associate with. This exciting pedagogy is already deepening and lifting my practice - how it dovetails too, into the new curriculum for Wales - encouraging metacognition / thinking and writing - is really so pertinent and inspiring too. I am making the most of this incredible opportunity. CLASP Fellows Programme – CLASP Teaching Resources (bard.edu) I can provide creative and innovative approaches to themes and subject to suit classes with a range of learning styles. Having spent many years working with pastoral support I offer a safe, positive learning space to explore sensitive and important issues while being able to engage with care with the challenging conversations around, for example, climate change, anti-bullying. Working the way I do, with young people and across the age ranges, it really is a privilege and I love what I do. I look forward to hearing from you with any query you may have!

I enjoy my work as a tutor and take a pride in the success of the students I work with. My approach is focused and relaxed. A brain under pressure simply cannot learn! I focus upon using writing as a tool to harness deeper learning and gradual skill acquisition. Skills are transferable (as they should be) and naturally built up. The learner will always feel in charge of their own learning and lessons are delivered on a bespoke basis. I offer support beyond the online session and can also set tasks to help consolidate learning along with written feedback. A love for learning using critical skills is nurtured all while developing skills and confidence whether towards subject or entry exams, coursework or simply targeted texts / areas of focus within the subject. Learning while having fun or at least feeling relaxed, is key.

Lynn has had a tremendous effect on my daughters confidence in both English and English literature, resulting in some excellent grades achieved. She is a patient and fun tutor and my daughter so enjoys the sessions. Lynn is always fully prepared for each lesson and has excellent knowledge of what is needed for examination preparation. We are thrilled we found Lynn, the profound effect on our daughters ability and confidence is proof that her tutoring is extremely beneficial! Highly recommended.
Lynn tutored my son for English GCSE. She was excellent: reliable, enthusiastic and very inspiring. Previously he had disliked English, but with her help, he gained confidence and exam technique skills and performed far better than his predicted grades . I would highly recommend Lynn.
Lynn has tutored all four of my sons (two of whom are dyslexic) over the last 6-7 years, through GCSE English language and literature, LAMDA exams (acting, verse and prose and public speaking), scholarship exams and theatre school auditions and on every occasion the boys have surpassed expectations due to Lynn's expertise in teaching Engkish, Drama and performance and public speaking skills. Lynn enables learning through her relaxed but thorough teaching style, covering all aspects of the given curriculum or specification and more. I have always felt more than comfortable leaving my children in Lynn's capable hands, both physically and virtually. It is always a pleasure working with Lynn, the boys are always happy to attend sessions and I would wholeheartedly recommend her as a tutor for all ages and abilities of children.
