ROSELLA PERRONE – Teaching Philosophy 2018 I am a teacher. For more than 28 years—half a lifetime—that simple sentence has defined my professional—and a generous part of my private life. During those years I learned to learn--and so, learned to teach. For surely, teaching is a “two way street.” I taught and “learned to teach” in high school classrooms, college lecture halls –at St. John’s University where I taught for sixteen years. I taught English-as-a-second-language to non-English speakers. I taught students with learning disabilities and I learned that my classroom and private students were not the only challenged learners who needed my help. The parents and guardians of students diagnosed with ADD, Dyslexia, and Asperger’s or speech and hearing delays also needed to learn about the challenges facing them as well as their children. My teaching philosophy is simple: do all you can to help students learn and grow. Be creative and “stay the course.” Whether I teach the “world languages” such as Italian and Spanish, whether my classroom subjects are English literature, ancient and western philosophy or comparative literature, whether my students have no “learning delays” or are faced with learning challenges, I do all I can. I use my imagination and my courage to try “something new”. Whether my classroom is filled with college students, secondary schoolers, private students, ESL students, or challenged students, I use my imagination to reach them, teach them, and, perhaps, widen their world view. The result I hope and work for: learning a language isn’t the end; it’s the beginning! Doors are open to Boccaccio’s Decameron, Dante’s Inferno, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and Machiavelli’s The Prince and so much more. My method is mostly “Socratic;” my goal: to open doors--for a wider view. --Rosella Perrone 2018

- She is extremely well read. She is willing to explore Machiavelli's compilation works to better understand his thoughts and philosophy. She was very nice and polite and I look forward to speak with her againRosella's response :
