As a tutor of SAT, I use a combination of teaching methodology and techniques to help my students achieve their goals. My teaching methodology is based on the following principles:
*Personalization*: I tailor my lessons to each student’s needs, strengths, weaknesses, and learning style. I use diagnostic tests, feedback, and progress reports to monitor and adjust my instruction accordingly.
*Strategy*: I teach my students how to approach the SAT as a standardized test, and how to use effective test-taking strategies, such as time management, elimination, guessing, and pacing. I also help them identify and avoid common traps and pitfalls on the test.
*Content*: I cover all the topics and skills tested on the SAT, including math, reading, writing, and language. I use official SAT materials, as well as other high-quality resources, to provide my students with realistic and relevant practice.
I also review the concepts and rules behind each question type, and explain the logic and reasoning behind the correct and incorrect answers.
*Motivation*: I motivate my students to work hard and improve their scores by setting realistic and achievable goals, providing positive reinforcement, and celebrating their successes. I also help them overcome their challenges and difficulties by providing support, encouragement, and guidance.
***A typical lesson plan for an SAT tutoring session would look something like this:
Warm-up: I start the session with a warm-up activity, such as a quick review of the previous lesson, a mini-quiz, or a fun game, to activate the student’s prior knowledge and get them ready for learning.
Instruction: I introduce the main topic or skill of the lesson, and explain the key concepts and rules using examples and illustrations. I also demonstrate how to apply the test-taking strategies to the specific question type or section of the test.
Practice: I provide the student with ample practice opportunities, using a variety of question formats and difficulty levels. I monitor the student’s performance and provide immediate and specific feedback. I also encourage the student to ask questions and clarify any doubts or confusion.
Review: I end the session with a review of the main points and takeaways of the lesson, and a summary of the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. I also assign homework (if required) and additional practice for the student to complete before the next session. ***
