About Alison
A graduate from Carleton University’s journalism and humanities program, I’m passionate about telling people’s stories through writing. I’m currently working towards a Marketing Diploma through McMaster’s continuing education program.
I have experience tutoring students one-on-one at the primary school level. As well, I have experience facilitating community programming to children and young adults with special needs, focusing on activities designed to develop practical skills.
I’m interested in becoming a tutor at this time because I want to make a positive difference in the lives of students who are facing so many challenges with returning to (or doing online) school this year. There are so many unknowns about the future of education, and I would like to use my knowledge to help students feel confident about their studies.

My approach to teaching is to create an environment that encourages lifetime learning for the student, by putting a focus on student-centered learning. I clearly state the expectations for my class, both for learning and behaviour, and I follow through in upholding these standards. Through a combination of problem-based learning and design thinking, I approach each subject with the goal of helping each student develop their critical thinking and creative skills, and improve their problem solving abilities.
