About Esther
Hi, my name is Esther Drake. I grew up on the East Side and have always been passionate about language and connection. I’m a proud graduate of Gallaudet University and am fluent in American Sign Language. With experience teaching ASL Level 1 through Level 5, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students. Whether you're just starting your ASL journey, looking to build on existing skills, or a parent of a Deaf child wanting to communicate more effectively, I’m here to help. I offer both in-person and virtual sessions tailored to meet your learning style and goals. Let’s learn together and build bridges through language and culture!

I teach various levels of ASL to accommodate students' needs, from Level 1 to Level 5. Instruction is available both in person and virtually. Level 1: Introduces fundamental ASL skills, including: Basic vocabulary Numbers 1–100 Fingerspelling Understanding of space and gestures Introduction to Deaf Culture Levels 2–4: Build upon Level 1, expanding skills and knowledge in areas such as: More advanced vocabulary and grammar Developing conversational skills Exploring cultural behaviors Learning about occupations and role shifting Understanding classifiers Level 5: Integrates all prior knowledge to focus on: Advanced vocabulary and grammar Storytelling and descriptions Group conversations Advanced understanding of Deaf Culture
