About Lisa
I graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and was fortunate enough to have my first job in the Neuro ICU at Duke. From there I moved with my family to Miami and completed my Master's in Nursing Education at Barry University, where I was a Professor of Nursing for 6 years, before again moving with my family to Orlando, where I taught for another 6 years at Valencia Community College. I received my Family Nurse Practitioner certification in 2007, and have been working as an FNP since that time, with occasional stints as adjunct faculty in various programs. I absolutely love teaching and it is my hope that I can help future nurses realize their potential and be the kind of nurse that they would want taking care of their own family members.

I prefer working one on one with students, meeting them at their level and taking their prior experience into account. I like to start with a specific problem or need that the student might have. For example, a student might be struggling with how to calculate the correct dosage for a medication. I will work step by step to break the process down, helping the student to understand the very basic math to get to the correct answer. Another example might be a specific medical diagnosis. I can help the student to understand the pathophysiology behind the disease, which helps to then better understand the treatment plan. I love to teach, and I love to see the proverbial Light Bulb or AhHa moment when a student finally understands a particular topic. My lessons can be tailored to any level of nursing from intro up through the Master’s level as well as the NP student.
