About Aidan
Hi, I'm Aidan, and I recently completed my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Houston, where my research focused on developing new catalysts for chemical reactions used in industry. Chemistry has been the center of my career for years now, but teaching it well has always mattered to me just as much as researching it — I've been invited to speak on topics like drug discovery and career paths in chemistry at events hosted by the American Chemical Society, and I co-authored a paper in the Journal of Chemical Education specifically on how to teach chemistry more effectively to today's students. I also spent four years hosting a chemistry podcast, translating advanced research for a general audience. I show up prepared, communicate clearly, and take a student's progress seriously — whether that means adjusting my explanation on the fly or following up after a session to make sure a concept truly stuck.
If you're looking for a tutor who genuinely understands chemistry at a deep level — whether that's AP Chemistry, General Chemistry, or Organic Chemistry — and who can also explain it patiently and clearly, I'd love to help you build the confidence and skills you need to succeed.

My Teaching Approach:
Chemistry is best learned through understanding, not memorization. I teach students to reason through the "why" behind concepts — whether that's an organic reaction mechanism, a general chemistry equilibrium, or an AP Chem calculation — so they can solve problems they've never seen before, not just recall memorized templates. This applies to spectroscopy too: I teach students to reason through NMR, IR, and mass spec data rather than pattern-matching to memorized values.
A Typical Lesson:
-Quick check-in on where the student is stuck (homework, an exam topic, a confusing lecture concept)
-Working through problems together live on a shared whiteboard, so I can catch and correct reasoning errors in real time
-Ending with practice problems the student works through independently while I'm still present, to confirm the concept has landed
What Sets Me Apart:
-Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Houston
-Invited speaker on drug discovery and chemistry careers for the American Chemical Society
-Co-author of a Journal of Chemical Education paper on improving how chemistry is taught
-Four years hosting a chemistry podcast, translating advanced research for general audiences
Who These Lessons Are For:
-High schoolers building a foundation for, or currently taking, AP Chemistry
-College students in General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry I and II
-Sessions adapted to each student's course, pace, and specific gaps — whether building initial confidence or refining exam strategy for a top grade

Aidan was my lab teammate in graduate school for 5 years, and I feel very lucky to say I know him pretty well! He’s very easy going and has no problem explaining chemistry concepts at various difficulty levels. Part of his time in graduate school was used to mentor a high schooler on top of his own research and I’ve never even seen him or his mentee stressed out. He’s diverse in his chemistry knowledge as well, since he started a podcast where he talks with leading scientists around the country. He’s very good about making time and following through, while being very welcoming and knowledgeable about what he teaches. Highly recommend as a tutor!
Aidan mentored me during an organometallic research project last year. He's excellent at explaining concepts, whether by offering advice, drawing mechanisms, or breaking down complicated reactions into understandable steps. He's very experienced in the field of organic chemistry and asked me thoughtful questions to help me develop a much stronger understanding of chemistry. Aidan is also highly knowledgeable in lab techniques and explains how procedures work and why each step matters. He's very patient, approachable, and kind. I highly recommend Aidan to other students looking for a great chemistry tutor.
