About Gemma
I am a theatre director with over 15 years experience working in theatres and drama schools. I trained on the MFA Theatre Directing at Birkbeck and on the National Theatre Studio Director's Programme.
I have directed for Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Southwark Playhouse, Derby Theatre, and Omnibus London among others. I have taught and directed at drama schools including LAMDA, LIPA and RADA and I am currently an Associate Lecturer at Guildford School of Acting and the University of Winchester.
I love working with aspiring actors to find the plays and speeches that work best for your unique identity and that showcase your talent. I have been on many audition panels and so I have really good insight into what makes people noticed for the right reasons. I am used to setting up spaces where students feel confident and comfortable, I am happy to go at the pace you set but will always discuss your goals and aspirations and work with you to reach them.

My lessons are a supportive and safe space where exploring, being bold and learning to 'fail' are encouraged! The audition process for drama schools can feel overwhelming; I can help demystify the journey so that you feel confident through the application process, in the lead up to auditions, and on the day itself.
Whether you have ideas of the kind of plays you'd like to explore, or if you feel you are starting from nothing, I am ready to work with you to find speeches that you can really connect with you and that play to your strengths.
My teaching is grounded in Stanislavski and influenced by the methodologies of Katie Mitchell and Mike Alfreds, so with me you will develop your skills of naturalism and portraying truthful characters. I focus on creating a friendly and relaxed environment in coaching, building up your confidence while preparing your rigorously for your auditions.
