About Devak
Hi there! My name is Dev, and I am a recent graduate of University College London. I graduated with first-class honours in BA History (emphasis on Medieval and Modern periods). I am passionate about writing and historical research, and am currently working on an article which looks at the changing role of the “restaurant” between 1765 to the present day. I speak three languages (English, French and Spanish) and enjoy cooking in my spare time. I went to King Edward’s School, Birmingham, where I achieved 10 A*s at iGCSE and then 44 points at IB (Core: 3; HL: History - 7; Spanish - 7; French - 7. SL: Maths Studies - 7; English - 6; Sport, Exercise and Health Science - 7). Services: I can tutor in most iGCSEs & IB subjects listed above I am also familiar with A-Level courses and could catch you up in relevant subjects in no time, although the tutoring would be geared more towards understanding key principles rather than specific curriculum-based teaching. If you are applying to study History at undergraduate level, I can also help you to write a Personal Statement for university admission. I can also help with Oxbridge History applications. Approach: I try to make classes as engaging as possible by focussing on essay-writing techniques, past papers revision, note-taking methods and active recall exercises. I also like to focus on the intricacies of source analysis, which is a transferable skill required for Oxbridge entrance, iGCSE & A-level exams and undergraduate level-study. I believe that studying is a strategic exercise which requires a methodological, level-headed approach. When you know *how* to study/revise, half of the battle is already won. Lesson format: Due to the recent quarantine measures, I can currently only give classes online. In order to make our time together productive, I will make our lessons as personalised as possible. Firstly, I will conduct a free 30-minute interview to find out your interests and get an idea of your educational needs. After this, I will prepare an individual mini-curriculum so we can get you to where you want to be in no time at all. After every lesson, I will assign you a set of homework and mark it in my spare time. Feel free to contact me with any questions!
