About William

My goal as a teacher is to give my students the tools they need to express the music and messages they hope to express. My greatest priority is to cultivate each students ability to connect with their feelings and to express them. I hope to expand my students musical experience beyond their weekly lessons by providing regularly streamed concerts in addition to regularly posting recordings of my performances for my students to view.

I love to make music, and I love to teach others to do the same. There are few things as satisfying as helping someone reach stretch and reach their potential--and that's what I enjoy most about teaching!

I started teaching when in 2012, when a local contacted my father about a piano teacher. Up to that point I had some experience as a rehearsal pianist and a private accompaninest, but this was my first teaching gig!

I have several years experience working as a piano teacher, as well as over 10 years experience working as a pianist. I primarily work as a staff pianist at local universities, and have played for theater productions, opera workshop, voice lessons, classes and choirs.

I began with an assesment of the students skills and goals. This involves me asking questions like, "What do you hope to get out of piano lessons? Why do you want to study piano?" The better my idea of what my student wants, the better I'll be able to help them achieve thier goals.

I've worked with absolute beginners to intermediate students. Most of the students I have were between the ages 5-14.

I specialize in classcial music, and am best prepared to help students develop skills such as sight reading, technique, interpreting music, and intentional listening.

I recently had the chance to attend a social distance Miyazaki movie night with a friend. I love good fims, and Miyazaki's works are some of my favorite.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Most any question should be well thought out by the student before they turn to the teacher. I am happy to answer any question my students might ask, but their thoughts and preperation is as important to me as any answer I can give them.
