About Matthew-john
I’m Matthew-John, a professional jazz pianist and jazz performance student based in Montreal. I play regularly at venues like Upstairs Jazz Bar, Barbossa, and Salon Badin, and I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels. I teach both traditional piano (reading, technique, classical pieces) and more modern, ear-based approaches focused on jazz, improvisation, and groove. I keep things clear, practical, and tailored to your goals — whether you’re just starting out, picking it back up, or looking to level up your playing. Lessons are available in English or French, online or in person. I’m here to help you improve, stay motivated, and enjoy playing music. No stress — just steady progress and real results.

Hi, I’m Mat Jon — a working jazz pianist and university student based in Montreal. I perform regularly around the city (Upstairs, Barbossa, Badin) and teach students of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players.
I offer both traditional piano lessons (reading music, technique, classical pieces) and creative, ear-based lessons focused on jazz, improvisation, and playing by feel.
